Drinking water can help manage blood sugar levels, though it is not a standalone solution. The recommended daily water intake varies based on factors such as age, gender, weight, climate, and physical activity level. Water is the most important element in the human body, which consists of 70 percent water.

Importance of water intake

  • It lubricates the joints.
  • It forms saliva and mucus.
  • It boosts skin health and beauty.
  • It cushions the brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissues.
  • It regulates body temperature.
  • It flushes body waste.

Functions and key role of water in the human body

  • Hydration:

Proper hydration can help maintain blood volume and support efficient insulin function. Dehydration can lead to higher blood sugar levels because less water in the bloodstream means a higher glucose concentration.

  • Effect on Kidneys:

Drinking adequate water helps the kidneys flush out excess glucose through urine, aiding blood sugar control.

  • Hydration and Skin Health:

Adequate hydration helps moisturize the skin, maintaining its elasticity and preventing dryness. Water also supports skin repair and regeneration processes.

  • Digestion and Nutrient Absorption:

Water is a key component of saliva, which begins the process of digestion by breaking down food. Water helps produce digestive juices necessary for the breakdown and absorption of nutrients in the digestive tract.

People who reported drinking less than half a liter of water every day were significantly more likely to have hyperglycemia. Those who drink a liter of water or more every day are the least likely to have high blood sugar levels.
