Uber India signs MOU with Government Backed ONDC

Prominent ride-handling firm Uber India entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-backed initiative.  The MoU Signing ceremony took place in the presence of Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani. The event was centered around the theme of “Building Population Scale Technology”.

Uber has articulated its vision of addressing the mobility requirements of all Indians. This vision resonates with the ONDC’s overarching objective of democratizing digital commerce across the country.

The President of Uber India and South Asia Prabhjeet Singh has expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with ONDC.  Moreover, he has underscored the company’s commitment to transforming Uber into a comprehensive platform that caters to the daily mobility needs of every Indian across the country.

India’s Digital Public Infrastructure is Growing

Uber’s CEO has acknowledged the scale and ambition of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure. He emphasized that this infrastructure serves as a valuable learning experience for companies and governments globally. The company has also an interest in open-source technology stacks and the potential of such technologies to foster innovation and collaboration, thereby benefiting multiple stakeholders.

The MD & CEO of ONDC T Koshy has highlighted the criticality of the Mobility, Transport and Travel (MTT) sector within the ONDC ecosystem. He said “As the Open Network is continuously evolving, MTT (Mobility, Transport and Travel) is certainly a critical sector for us. Different players together on the network foster innovation and newer business models. Today’s MoU is a major step forward, and one we hope will enable a diverse range of mobility solutions to benefit every Indian.”

Both the UBER and ONDC share a commitment to leverage the tech and collaboration to facilitate a range of mobility solutions. This collaboration underscores their shared dedication to advancing digital commerce and the mobility infrastructure in India.
