Tahira Kashyap Khuranna is a writer and film- maker based in Mumbai. She is the wife of the actor Ayushmaan Khurana. Tahira Kashyap’s directorial debut is an ode to womanhood. The movie ‘Sharmajee ki Beti’ is dedicated to women, their sacrifice, sorrows, and desires. Tahira Kashyap has not seen Red flags or green flags in her life.
How is Sharmajee Ki-Beti an ode to Womanhood?
The film revolves around three different stories simultaneously, but one thing that is common between them is they all are daughters of Sharmajee. There is always a comparison that few parents do with their children, and they often give them a reference of Sharmajee ki beti or beta. The movie is an effort to showcase that everyone some or the other way is struggling in their lives.

Unveiling the Unexpected plot twist in the movie
The first plot revolves around Sakshi Tanwar who has played the role of Jyoti Sharma. Jyoti Sharma is one of the renowned teachers in her coaching class, her husband Sharib Hashmi played by Sudhir takes care of all the household chores and looks after their daughter. Their daughter Swati stays upset with her mother for always being occupied with her work and not giving time to her daughter. Jyoti always has a reminder on her phone to remind Sudhir about the work. She gets to know that her daughter is not happy with her because she has never prioritized her daughter but always prioritizes her work.
It is interesting to witness the blooming relationship of mother and daughter. On the other hand, we can call Sudhir a man of ‘Green Flag’ who is always proud of his wife, and her achievements this is one of the plot twists in the movie which depicts that not all men are the same.
Are Men Red flags at times?
In the second plot, we see Divya Dutta portraying the role of Kiran Sharma. She is a homemaker who has recently shifted to Mumbai from Patiala. Her husband Vinod played by Parvin Dabas, is always absent-minded and doesn’t respond to her properly. There is a scene where we can see both of them having a conversation where she is constantly trying to make an effort but he only replies with a ‘hmm’… and she can only see him before sleeping. On their anniversary she finds out that her husband is cheating on her, and she confronts him in the most dignified way. Vinod tells Kiran that she is not the one at fault, but the problem is with him.
His parents forced him to marry her. A woman can tolerate anything about the husband but doesn’t justify the husband cheating on his wife. They also have a daughter Gurmeet always busy with her school, friends, and extracurricular activities. Toward the end of the plot her daughter confesses to her mother that she is gay to which her mother replies that it is ok, love is love, and accepts her the way she is.

A Bold New Symbol of Emergence
The third plot revolves around Tanvi Sharma by Saiyami Kher, she is a state-level cricketer. She is very much focused on her cricket career and considers it as goal of her life. Tanvi falls in love with Rohan played by Ravjeet Singh, an aspiring actor. He is always proud of her girlfriend and her achievements. But there is a difference between their lifestyle choices, he is from a small town and expects her to be a certain way. The problem occurs when Tanvi Sharma starts feeling that he is trying to control her, with the minute details of wanting her to get a manicure done now and then.
There are so many things that we can see he expects from her. The emergence of the emotion here is not envy, but the patriarchal mindset of men that women should be beautiful, elegant and dress every day. When they have a masculine urge to be like men, ambitious and determined they cannot tolerate it. Everything seems to be good until it starts frustrating the women.
