Six more people lost their lives in the last 24 hours, taking the number of sunstroke deaths to thirty. The State’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said, ‘out of the alleged 147 cases, 20 cases are not due to sunstroke, the remaining 97 cases are under examination’.
The extreme heat in India killed dozens of people
The death poll due to the heatwave in India has reached an alarming number of 87, with 45 being claimed in the last thirty-six hours. The scorching summer in the capital of Delhi has reached an alarming temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius.

Uttar Pradesh, amidst this heat, claimed the cathartic death of 33 people in a single day. According to officials, heat-related deaths were reported in Odisha (30), Bihar (8), and Jharkhand (4). Five heat-related deaths have been reported in Rajasthan.
Jharsugda experienced the maximum heat at 47.3 degrees Celsius
Jharsugda was the hottest place in Orissa, with 47.3 degrees Celsius. Out of the thirty deaths, around twelve were reported from Sundargarh and nine from Jharsuguda.
Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, and Kandhamal are suspected to have undergone the impacts of the heatwave the most. Warnings and caution for the excruciating heatwave in the next two days have been circulating across Odisha.

Rainfall in some parts of Orissa, a ‘slight respite’
However, a slight respite from this heatwave was experienced on Monday due to the rainfall experienced in some parts of Orissa. Cuttack recorded 91 mm of rainfall, Talcher 67 mm, Jagatsinghpur 65.4 mm, and Bhubaneswar 63.1 mm during the period.
