Real Madrid is apparently keeping an eye on Rasmus Hojlund and may move for the Manchester United attacker if they are unable to acquire Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland this summer.
Real Madrid Eyes Promising Talent Hojlund Amid Mbappe and Haaland Pursuit
Defensa Central (via centredevils) indicates that Madrid’s head scout Juni Calafat has been watching Hojlund for several months. The La Liga club is poised to hire a new top center-forward this summer.
Mbappe and Haaland are Real Madrid’s main targets, and the former appears to have opted to join Carlo Ancelotti’s team. According to reports, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar will leave the Parc des Princes for the Santiago Bernabeu when his contract expires in June.
Calafat, on the other hand, has been keeping an eye on Hojlund, 21, since he was a member of Atalanta. He departed the Italian club for Manchester United this summer in a £72 million transfer, becoming the Red Devils’ highest expensive U21 acquisition.
Hojlund has made a great start to his Old Trafford career, scoring five goals in his past five games. This has resulted to an overall total of 11 goals and two assists in 29 appearances across tournaments.
Real Madrid Eyes Hojlund as Backup Option if Mbappe or Haaland Deals Falter
The Danish international is seen as United’s future and the long-term striker that the club has long sought. He signed a five-year contract with Erik ten Hag.
However, if Madrid is unable to acquire Mbappe or Haaland, Hojlund will serve as a backup alternative. The latter would be the more challenging transaction, considering that he has three years left on his Manchester City contract.
If Madrid failed to acquire Mbappe or Haaland and instead attempted to lure Hojlund to the Bernabeu, it would raise concerns about the PSG striker’s future. A prospective redevelopment at the Parc des Princes is one possibility, but a relocation to the Premier League is also being considered.
Manchester United Emerges as Potential Rival to Real Madrid in Mbappe Pursuit
Manchester United might be one of the teams considered as options to Los Blancos for the French skipper. Red Devils manager Ten Hag will have the support of minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS squad.
A move for Mbappe, 25, remains doubtful, but if United does sign the Frenchman, he will be joining forces with a player he admires. The Parisian singer waxed poetic about Marcus Rashford back in 2020, calling him one of England’s most dangerous strikers.
Rashford, 26, is Manchester United’s offensive star who has spent his whole career at Old Trafford. In 388 games, the England international has scored 128 goals and provided 74 assists, winning the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
