Russian President Vladimir Putin removed Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, in the recent cabinet shakeup where he is about to start his fifth term. The move was very unexpected by Putin as Sergei Shoigu is known for his service in the field of Defence over the years. However, it is stated that there is a restructuring of the council by Putin after his recent inauguration as the President.
Most of the cabinet ministers have resigned from their posts following the protocol, but few of them have retained their positions. Now it is important to understand what made Putin take this unexpected move of replacing the Defence minister.

Replacement in Security Council
Putin’s announcement of replacing the Defence Minister was very unusual, and it was a matter of point to understand Shoigu’s next step until Putin announced him as the Secretary of the Security Council. Shoigu was the Defence Minister since 2012, and is considered one of the most Loyal ministers who has worked and has done justice to his job. Which follows the arrest of his deputy Timur Ivanou, on bribery charges.

It is important to understand the Point of view of Putin regarding the replacement of the Defence Minister. The Defence Minister who will be taking charge after Shoigu Belsouavu who is called Shoigus’s successor. But, for the new nomination they need the approval of the upper house parliament, the Federation Council. The thought behind making a civilian the minister of defence is to bring in innovation, and economic efficiency into the Defence sector. Belasouavu, who was formerly the first deputy Prime Minister, seems to fit into the role as he has experience in finance and economics.
