The Protestors attacked in large numbers in Kyrgyzstan’s Capital city Bishkek after the clash between local students and International students at a hostel on, May 13.
Indian and Pakistani students were assigned with the advisories for students in Kyrgyzstan requesting them to stay indoors amidst the mob violence against foreign students.
The Indian Consulate posted on X formerly known as Twitter that since the moment they found out about the incident, the law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan Republic have taken prompt measures to detain the persons who were involved in the incident.

What’s happening in Bishkek?
There was a huge attack on Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi students. Over hundreds of Kyrgyzstan men attacked the hostel housing of the students. Kyrgyz police stated they had mobilized the forces in Central Asian National’s Captial to quell the violence.
The Pakistan embassy mentioned that the situation intensified after the videos went viral on the Internet, in the video the mob broke doors and beat the students brutally.
Escalating Tensions
The local media stated that the tension escalated after videos of the fight went viral between Kyrgyz students and foreign students namely Pakistanis and Egyptians. The fight occurred on May 13, and the locals of Kyrgyz witnessed it. After this several Kyrgyz personnel took to the streets on Friday alleging “lenient treatment” by officials against foreigners involved in the fight. However, police denied the fact and said that three students had been detained as soon as they received the reports.
The mobs started targeting medical university hostels where International Students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Why Students are choosing Kyrgyzstan?
Kyrgyzstan is becoming one of the study hotspots across the world for students. After the shocking incident occurred in Kyrgyzstan, the reports said that the average number of Indian students in Kyrgyzstan is estimated to be around 15,000. It is still not, immediately known how many of them are in Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan is a favoured destination for students, because of its affordability, and the quality of education promised. It is a popular destination among Indian students looking to pursue an MBBS. The degrees provided by the colleges in the country are internationally recognized by the World Health Organisation ( WHO)

External Affairs Minister’s Advise
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar advised all students in Kyrgyzstan capital to stay in regular touch with the Embassy.
In a post on X formerly known as Twitter, Jaishankar wrote “Monitoring the welfare of the Indian Students in Bishkek. The situation is reportedly calm now. Strongly advise students to stay in regular touch with the Embassy”
The students also have been advised to “stay indoors”. Currently, the Indian embassy in Kyrgyz Republic is in contact with the students.
Pakistan Prime Minister’s Reaction
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced deep concern about the situation.
“Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed the Pakistani Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance. My office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation” he wrote on X formerly Twitter.
