Disruption in certain cloud services by Microsoft, impacted all airlines in India resulting in delays in check-ins and hand written boarding passes. Due to the major havoc created, the central government is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage.
Microsoft Azure or Azure is developed as the cloud computing platform to offer management, access, and development of applications and services to individuals, companies, and governments. An outage in Microsoft Azure has impacted all the airlines in India leading to delays in the check-in and onboarding process. Many Microsoft operated devices suffered BSOD [Blue Screen of Death] and it shut down / started automatically.

NIC network is not affected – Ashwini Vaishnaw
Amidst this ongoing Microsoft Azure network issue, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology said, “The reason for this outage has been identified and updates have been released to resolve the issue. CERT is issuing a technical advisory. NIC network is not affected,” in an X post.
MEITY is continually in touch with Microsoft, which in turn is actively working with impacted entities.

All airlines in India are impacted
Flyers across airlines are advised to contact their respective airlines for further information. The outage in Microsoft Azure has impacted the system of networks of all airlines across India.
Indigo reported in the airports such as an increase in the times due to system lag, slower check-ins, and longer queues are the problems being dealt with by the passengers.
Similar issues were reported by Akasa Airlines. Akasa said, due to network disruption “some of our online services, including booking, check-in, and manage booking services will be temporarily unavailable”. To combat the situation, Akasa is following a manual check-in and boarding process requesting the passengers to reach early at the airports early.
Spice Jet and Air India also reported similar issues, posting on their official Twitter Channels about the updates regarding the same. They are also updating about the measures adopted at their end to make the boarding and check-in as smooth as possible and ensure the flight schedule does not get impacted.
Real-Time impact is yet to be assessed
The data regarding the affected number of flights and passengers is yet to be released. Delhi Airport reported ceasing some of the services temporarily to minimize the inconvenience to the passengers and the airlines.
Microsoft meanwhile reported the cause of the inconvenience to be under investigation and also investigating the issue impacting users’ ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.
