According to a statement from the President’s office, the Maldivian government has declared a ban on Israeli citizens entering the country. The South Asian nation plans to amend laws to enforce this entry ban on Israelis. Additionally, the Maldives appointed a special envoy to evaluate the needs of Palestinians. A fundraising effort, in partnership with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, will be initiated to assist Palestinian citizens.

Maldives implements Israeli passport ban

President Mohamed Muizzu has recently announced the implementation of a ban on Israeli passports”.” The timeline for the implementation of this new regulation remains undisclosed. Muizzu also launched a nationwide campaign called “Maldivians for Palestine Solidarity.”

The ban was restored in 2010

The Maldives had lifted a ban on Israeli tourists in the early 1990s and sought to restore relations in 2010. Nevertheless, these efforts were derailed when President Mohamed Nasheed was ousted in February 2012.

Now, in the Maldives, both opposition groups and government supporters are urging Muizzu to ban Israelis as a gesture of support for the Gaza attack protests. Official data show that only 528 Israeli tourists were recorded in the initial four months of this year, indicating an 88% reduction compared to last year.
