On Saturday 16th March 2024, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar disclosed the schedule for the Loksabha Elections 2024 in a press conference held in New Delhi. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has outlined a comprehensive plan for conducting the elections, which will unfold in 7 phases. The results are slated to be declared on June 4, marking the culmination of this crucial democratic exercise.

Record-Breaking Electorate Numbers
Election Commission CEC Rajiv Kumar surprised the crowd by revealing surprising facts about the components of the upcoming elections. A total of 49.7 crore male votes, 47.1 crore female votes and 48,000 transgender votes are ready to change the politics of India. Notably, the electoral roll has been enriched by 1.8 crore first-time voters, underscoring the dynamic nature of India’s democracy.
Lok Sabha Elections to be held in Seven Phases
Lok Sabha elections 2024 are scheduled to begin on April 19, with the first phase covering 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states. After this, the second phase will begin on April 26, in which 89 constituencies across 13 states will exercise their franchise.
Giving further details to the plan, CEC Rajeev Kumar revealed that the third phase will begin on May 7, covering 94 parliamentary constituencies from 12 states. Moving forward, the fourth phase is scheduled to take place on May 13, with elections to be held in 96 parliamentary constituencies across 10 states.
The electoral journey continues with the fifth phase on May 20, covering 49 constituencies across 8 states. After this, in the sixth phase, voting will be held in 57 parliamentary constituencies of 7 states on May 25. Finally, in the seventh phase on June 1, 57 parliamentary constituencies from 8 states will participate in shaping the political destiny of the country.

Commitment to Peaceful Conduct
Assuring the nation of a peaceful electoral process, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar reiterated the Election Commission’s commitment to upholding the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). “In the past 11 state polls, we’ve witnessed peaceful and violence-free elections with minimal need for repolls; moving forward, we aim to enhance this trend,” stated CEC Rajiv Kumar.
