Speculation about MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been swirling, after CSK’s final match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Dhoni gave no indication of potential retirement, sparking rumours that he might return for one final season, but Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently addressed the issue.
No discussions in the dressing room on Dhoni’s retirement
Viswanathan informed The Indian Express newspaper, “There were no discussions in the dressing room about it. We have never asked him about his future and neither has he said anything about it. When he takes a decision, he will inform us, until then we will not interfere.”

Ambati Rayudu, a former teammate of Dhoni at CSK, has already mentioned that “Thala” is definitely coming back for the 2025 season. While commentating on Star Sports, Rayudu said,“I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note,” Rayudu said on Star Sports. “With the impact player role as well, it gives him the opportunity to be able to come in those last few overs and truly make that impact,”.
He further added, “BCCI better not remove the impact player role because we still want to see MS Dhoni play. So, it’s up to BCCI now. Do we want to see MS Dhoni play or not?”

Dhoni’s performance will be remembered
After leading CSK to five championships, MS Dhoni stepped down as captain, passing the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Last year, following a victorious final against Gujarat Titans, Dhoni expressed his desire to return for the fans. Despite undergoing knee surgery and a hiatus from professional cricket, he continued to excel as a death-over batter.
If CSK had made it to the playoffs, Dhoni would have had the opportunity to play in front of the home crowd in Chennai, with Qualifier 2 and the final scheduled there.
