A continuous Downpour since August 26, 2024, Sunday brought Flood in several districts of Gujarat claimed 35 lives, rescue operations are on and 17,800 people have been evacuated till now.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation on Wednesday and Thursday from the Chief Minister of Gujarat State Bhupendra Patel. The Prime Minister promised to deliver every help which will be required to the state from the centre in this tough time. As the water is slowly decreasing in the state the Prime Minister said to the Chief Minister of that they should be prepared for the disease after the flood the health equipment should be ready so that there is no hindrance in the treatment of the patients if any such kind of situation arrives.

Rivers Overflow

Vishwamitri River in Vadodara city of Gujarat caused severe damage in the region the river crossed its danger mark of 25 feet on Tuesday and was above its danger mark till Wednesday the continuous rain and the release of water from Ajwa dam caused overflowing of the river and the overflowing of the river brought stranded to lives in low lying areas. However, there was a little relief on Thursday Morning as the water level of Vishwamitri River dropped to 32 feet from 37 feet. 3000 people were rescued from the low-lying areas.

The Narmada River flowed over it’s danger mark of 24 feet and caused inundation in the low-lying regions the river crossed its danger mark due to continuous water flowing of dam waters from Madhya Pradesh state.

Rescue Operation

The teams of 13 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and 22 SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) were deployed to carry out the rescue operations. Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Coast Guard are also in rescue operations so far 17, 800 people have been rescued from the different regions of the state

Deaths in Gujarat due to flood

State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) states the figure of deaths from various districts and villages of the state death of 15 people were reported from Gandhinagar on Tuesday and 4 deaths were reported on Wednesday, 4 deaths in Morbi and 2 in Rajkot district.

Districts in the Saurashtra region like Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Porbandar districts of the Saurashtra region of Gujarat received around 50 mm to 200 mm of rain till Wednesday. Around twenty talukas in this district received over 100 mm of rain by Thursday morning.

Bhanvad Taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka received 295 mm rainfall, the highest in the state and Kalyanpur taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka District received 263 mm rainfall  Abdas taluka in Kutch District received 276 mm rainfall.
