Facebook and Instagram faced a global outage on Tuesday evening after several users reported that they could not access the social media apps. The servers were down for almost an hour, but the apps began working normally – logging all users back in.
While some joked about the outage, others were worried until Meta spokesperson Andy Stone posted officially on X social media, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
Several users even feared being hacked and cybercrime, as they wrote, “Is meta down or am I being hacked? 😂 my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook is also “session logged out.”
But after restoring the apps to usual, Stone apologised, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
Was YouTube facing an issue too?
YouTube, an online video streaming platform, is also said to have faced an outage after the Meta apps. Several users reported that they were unable to play videos or explore through the home page. Nearly 4000 reports were recorded by downdetector.com.
This worldwide outage disrupted the usage of the apps and caused frustration among the users, as they were denied access for almost an hour on a peak Tuesday.
Elon Musk trolled Meta for the outage
Meanwhile, the users were stressed about the outage, so Elon Musk jumped into his meme-wagon again to mock down its big-time competitor META. He sarcastically wrote on X, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our (X social media) servers are working.” and also said that he knew exactly why everyone was on X at that time.
Moreover, he posted another tweet where three penguins symbolized Facebook, Instagram, and threads were saluting X.
Even Whatsapp was said to be down by numerous users, with nearly 200 reports about it, but all the services have resumed to normal again, so sit back and scroll while you read this news.
