The Bollywood playback singer, Alka Yagnik, has hundreds of 90’s songs in her name, featuring everyone from Madhuri Dixit to Sridevi. She has been diagnosed with a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss due to a sudden viral attack.
Yagnik gives her fans the sad news via Instagram
In her latest Instagram post on Monday, the singer addressed her friends and well-wishers and revealed why she had been away from music for a long time. Alka posted her picture from the 90s and captioned it for all her fans, friends, followers, and well-wishers. She stated that a few weeks ago, as she walked out of a flight, she suddenly experienced hearing loss. The singer announced that she has been diagnosed with a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack. This sudden, major setback had caught her completely off guard.

Alka Yagnik asked fans to pray for her
Alka said it took her some time to come to terms with her rare disease. The singer shared a warning against ‘exposure to very loud music and headphones’. She also stated that she wished to share the health perils of her professional life. With everyone’s love and support, the singer hopes to bounce back soon. Fans’ support would mean a lot, said the singer, during this difficult time.

Alka Yagnik on playback singers and their challenges
In one of her early interviews with ANI, Alka Yagnik stated that the biggest hits of her career, Pardesi Pardesi, Gazab Ka hain Din, Taal se Taal Mila said that ‘playback singing is not as easy as it seems’. In 2017 Alka shared that when one is signing for a character, they have to make the actor comfortable and easy for them, not difficult. It is a challenge for a Playback singer to adapt to a different style of each composer. But when they achieve it nothing compares to the happiness of a composer telling them that singing perfectly adapts to their style.
