Govt constitutes 8 Cabinet committees; no change in the security, appointments panels

Synopsis : The eight cabinet committees were constituted on Wednesday with PM Modi heading six of them and not being a part of two. Amit shah becomes the sole member across all committees. Five NDA partners are seen holding positions in various committees.

On Wednesday, the Union government constituted 8 Cabinet committees, where the panels of the two most important cabinets,  the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) remained unchanged. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) got three new faces.

CCEA, ACC, CCS, Cabinet Committee on Accommodation, Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth, and Cabinet Committee on Skill, Employment and Livelihood, are the eight cabinet committees. PM Narendra Modi heads six cabinet committees and is not part of two, Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. Amit Shah, the Home Minister, becomes the sole member of the powerful Appointments Committee.

Three new faces introduced in  CCEA

CCEA is expected to have 11 members as per the composition of the cabinets released by the cabinet secretariat. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan ‘Lalan’ Singh, are the three new faces of CCEA.

Besides them,  PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Shah, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are the remaining numbers.

NDA partners included in the cabinet committees

Apart from Shivraj Singh Chouhan and H D Kumaraswamy, Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan and Jayant Chaudhary are also included in two other committees. 

Paswan became a Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth member, and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary is included as a Special Invitee on the Cabinet Committee on Skill, Employment, and Livelihood.

No changes made in the Appointments Committee and CCS

The powerful Appointments Committee, which Modi heads, has not undergone any changes. The cabinet committee on Security too has not undergone any changes, the four members include Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S. Jaishankar.
