Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived India for a 2-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She received an official welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the presence of Modi on Friday.

Newly appointed Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh welcomed his Bangladeshi counterpart at the airport. Ministers and representatives of both countries were present at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. She was also welcomed by Minister of External Affairs S.Jaishankar, Union Minister J.P. Nadda, foreign minister Kirtivardhan Singh and Jitendra Singh.

This is his first official visit after the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha and she was also among the international leaders invited for swearing in by Prime Minister Modi. The general strategic relations between the two countries have increased in recent years. “This visit will give a major boost to India-Bangladesh relations,” an official spokesperson said, Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal on social media.

India-Bangladesh Relations 

Over the years, India and Bangladesh have developed a multi-faceted relationship characterized by shared history, culture and geographical proximity. The two neighbors enjoy warm ties that have expanded under the leadership of Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 2023 has become more active in the bilateral activities of both countries as a symbol of the strength of the relations. India’s “neighborhood policy” Bangladesh is an important partner. The two prime ministers jointly launched the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline in a virtual format on March 18.

Bilateral discussion on multiple topics

According to the sources, the focus of the bilateral discussion will be several topics such as connectivity and infrastructure, electricity and energy cooperation, defense, trade and economic partnership, development cooperation, river water sharing and cultural relations. A defense agreement is also expected, and probably a financial package, a rail traffic agreement will also be discussed.
