On Friday, PM Modi is celebrating International Yoga Day in the “land of sadhana” i.e. Srinagar. According to him, yoga promotes that “our welfare is related to the welfare of the world around us”.
June 21st is celebrated as International Yoga Day, due to PM Narendra Modi’s proposal to the UN in 2014. “In 2014, I proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations. This proposal by India was supported by 177 nations and this was a record in itself. Since then, Yoga Day has been creating new records,” PM Modi said.

Yoga tourism in India
Yoga tourism has flourished all across India. Kashmir is now known as the “land of sadhana” and yoga. The interpretation of yoga has completely shifted due to the economic growth in this sector. He said, “Today, the world is seeing a new Yoga economy going forward. In India, from Rishikesh and Kashi to Kerala, a new connection of Yoga tourism is being seen”.
“This year in India, a 101-year-old woman Yoga teacher from France was accorded the Padma Shri. She had never come to India but she dedicated her entire life to creating awareness about Yoga”, PM Modi said.
The rise in the ‘yoga economy’ is a boon
International Yoga Day has completed ten years, promoting wellness and integrity worldwide. The last ten years have seen a tremendous rise in the number of people practicing yoga. ‘Yoga economy’ too has created employment and job opportunities on a national level.

Yoga awareness promotes wellness and strength
International Yoga Day, did not only create awareness about yoga, but about health, wellness, and strength. The number of people practicing yoga has grown tremendously after the yoga day was adopted, PM Modi said.
“I extend my wishes on the occasion of Yoga Day from the land of Kashmir to people performing yoga all across India and the world,” said PM Modi, who is on a two-day tour to Srinagar.
