To attend the outreach session of the G7 summit, PM Narendra Modi arrived in Italy’s Apulia, on early Friday. He is expected to meet several leaders on Friday and hold bilateral meetings with them on the sideline of the summit. The 50th G7 Summit is being hosted by Italy this year in Borgo Egnazia (Fasano) in the city of Apulia from June 13 to 15.

Before leaving for Italy, PM Modi emphasized the areas of artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean being the talk of the summit. He also expressed that the concerns faced by the global South will be discussed to bring synergy between the G7 summit held in India last September and the forthcoming summit.

“Looking forward to engaging in productive discussions with world leaders. Together, we aim to address global challenges and foster international cooperation for a brighter future,” he tweeted

Participants attending the 50th G7 summit

The seven major advanced economies, Canada, France, Japan, the US, UK, Germany, and the EU are being hosted by Italy, as the current chair of the G7 summit. India has attended ten summits before, and this happens to be the fifth consecutive summit being attended by PM Narendra Modi.

Apart from India, Italy has invited leaders and dignitaries from Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region as outreach participants. Georgia Meloni, in her opening address on Thursday, also expressed her intention to host the summit in Southern Italy, which is to send a strong message to the global south.

Dominant discussions in the G7 outreach session

The Summit is expected to be dominated by the discussions of the raging Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas war. A bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Italian President Georgia Meloni is scheduled, later today. PM Modi is also expected to meet the US President, Joe Biden later on the sidelines of the summit.

The arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Thursday, also intended the Russia-Ukraine conflict to hold a dominant place on the discussion floor. India’s stance on the same will mostly revolve around ‘dialogue and diplomacy’ as the best approach. But Rishi Sunak will be contributing to the decisive efforts to support Ukraine, no matter ‘whatever it takes’.

Bio: The proposed entity has its fair share of challenges ahead of it. The Indian media market is constantly changing, and the new entity will have to adapt accordingly. Besides that, it also faces stringent competition from other media giants like Netflix and Sony, which recently cancelled its own ambitious merger with Zee.
