Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the 2nd rank in the points table and advanced to compete against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1. This advancement followed their successful chase of 215 runs, culminating in a 4-wicket triumph over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19, 2024.
Rahul Tripathi’s role at No. 3 was to stabilise the innings after the early loss of their leading run-scorer, Travis Head, and to inject moment into the chase. Despite not having played for over a month and this being only his third innings of IPL 2024, Tripathi demonstrated his capability and composure under pressure by hitting two precise boundaries, relieving pressure from his partner Abhishek Sharma.

Commentator Mathew Hayden told Star Sports, “I just love his ability to upfront so hard. I think that’s what has been really missing inside the SRH batting line-up. That powerplay is so significant. especially when the wickets are getting slower, so in the first 6 overs, you have to make use of it. It was a really good leadership decision as well to get back down the order,”.
“I mean, getting to Australia, let’s just take the liberty to say that’s where it is, not saying he will be picked, but he has the game on bouncy wickets,” Hayden added.
