Singapore has seen a rise in Covid-19 cases. The authorities have recorded around 25,000 cases in the country from May 5 to 11. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has advised everyone to start wearing masks as a precautionary measure.
The Straits Newspaper quoted the minister’s statement saying, “We are at the beginning part of the wave where it is steadily rising. So, I would say that Wave should peak in the next two to four weeks, which means between mid- and end of June”.

The Ministry of Health (MOH), has estimated number of Covid-19 cases from May 5 to 11 rose to 25, 900 cases, compared with 13,700 cases. The daily average COVID-19 hospitalizations rose to about 250 from 181 the week prior.
Health Minister Ong has urged everyone to be careful and the ones who are suffering from severe disease to receive an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine if they have not done so in the past 12 months.
The Health Ministry of Singapore further noted that there will be no restrictions or any other mandatory kind of measures as of now.
Precautionary Measures to Follow
- Wear Mask: In a crowded and enclosed space, it is advised to wear a mask to stay safe and keep others safe as well.
- Getting Tested: If symptoms match, it is better to get the test done so that precautions can be taken prior.
- Ventilation: Good ventilation in indoor spaces by opening windows and doors whenever it is possible as air purifies and reduces the concentration of airborne virus particles.
- Social Distancing: Social distancing is one of the effective ways to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, maintain a safe distance in public places, and avoid large gatherings as the virus can spread early in these gatherings.
- Vaccination: The vaccination can be taken by all age groups, along with their booster dose. This helps reduce the chances of one getting affected easily by the virus.
- Hygiene: Keep washing your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use sanitiser.
