An unusually strong storm hit the Solar System which has produced northern lights in the US, which might interpret power and communications. Further, the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) issued a strong warning about the storms. The storms reached Earth on Friday, even before it was anticipated. This is one of the strongest storms that has hit Earth after 20 years.
The United Kingdom, US, Australia, and New Zealand were the countries that saw Northern lights at night which made them go awed and shared the pictures on the Internet as this was something which they didn’t expect. One of the users expressed that “ the naked eye couldn’t capture the image of Northern Lights, but the phone captured it beautifully. Also added that it was 10 seconds exposure which was amazing

However, the NOAA, said that this might not be at higher risk, also added that this was a rare event which occurred in the United states. It is important to understand what might happen when the solar system is hit by such strong Solar Storms.
How does a Solar Storm affect the Earth?
The NOAA describes geometric storms as “a major disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere that occurs when there is a very efficient exchange of energy from solar wind into the space environment surrounding Earth”
Basically in simple terms when the Earth’s upper atmosphere is hit by the strong geomagnetic storms it creates solar flares which will fast for several days, but mostly it can last for 12- 24 hours.

Why do Northern Lights Appear?
Earth’s magnetic field protects us from the Solar wind, when those particles are dragged or scratched they tend to bounce back like an elastic band which creates charged particles.
When the Earth’s charged particles launch along, the Earth’s magnetic fields collide with gases in the upper Earth’s Atmosphere. When these tiny particles are produced they fill the sky with colourful light hence the Northern Lights occur. The Northern Lights can be seen almost every night from August to May.
