Four army personnel, including a Major rank officer, died from their injuries following a confrontation in the Desa forests of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night. Within the last three weeks, there have been three significant clashes between security forces and terrorists in the forests of Doda district.

Open fire by Terrorists
According to reports, gunfire was detected in the area between Uddan Bagi and Dheri Goth in the Dessa district of Doda at approximately 7.45 pm. The confrontation began when the terrorists who were concealed in the woods unexpectedly began shooting at a group of security forces conducting searches in the vicinity. The security forces fought back and the shooting between both parties persisted for almost thirty minutes.
Further engagement and injuries
Following a short gun battle, the terrorists attempted to flee but were pursued by the soldiers under the command of an officer, despite the difficult terrain and dense vegetation. This resulted in another exchange of gunfire around 9 pm on Monday which resulted in at least 5 soldiers getting injured.
Previous Encounter in Kathua
Five members of the military were killed and five others were injured during an attack by terrorists on a military convoy in the isolated Machedi region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on 9th July. The Army vehicles were ambushed while on a regular patrol along the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, approximately 150 km away from Kathua. Officials reported that following the first assault – during which terrorists hurled a grenade and subsequently engaged in gunfire – security forces responded, however, the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby forest. Additional troops were quickly brought in, and an operation was initiated to locate and apprehend the individuals.
Defense Minister’s message to families of soldiers
The Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh was deeply saddened by the loss of the soldiers and showed his support to their families. He also assured them that the soldiers remain committed to eliminating terrorism and soon, peace will be restored in the region.

Further Actions
The Army and police called in additional personnel on Monday night and began a new search of the area with increased troops on Tuesday morning, according to authorities. In addition to that, nearby units such as 26 RR and 9 RR have been brought in, along with a special forces group, drones, and helicopters for the search mission. More soldiers are also being deployed to the region.
